Yay, I’m finally starting to get some emails. Please feel free to email me your questions if you have something that you are not sure a private investigator can help you with, or if there’s something that you would like to see on the blog.
A lot of the questions I receive have to do with how you become a private investigator. The first place to start is with the Tennessee Private Investigation and Polygraph Commission website. Read through the licensing requirements and if you can’t or don’t want to meet them then you cannot pass go, so to speak, and you cannot become a licensed private investigator in Tennessee, and therefore you cannot offer private investigations services in Tennessee, despite what the following Knoxville Craigslist ad poster seems to believe.
Need a private investigator but can’t afford one?
Think your partner might be doing something they shouldnt be? Need someone to check up on them but afraid you might get caught doing it youself?Or, just need some things checked out legally or background information need to be checked on a certain someone?
Im the person for you! I have experience in private investigator work and law enforcement. I do have a camera and can provide pics for anything you need.
Just looking for extra money and I know how expensive hiring a private investigator can be!
Feel free to email me with any questions you might have!
I did not include the contact information because well, this is just wrong on so many levels. I admit a pet peeve of mine with many investigators is their report writing ability. Yes, I know that I am not perfect in the grammar or typos department; however, I do keep in mind that the work I produce can become part of a lawsuit and work full of grammatical errors, and that reads poorly does reflect upon the perceived quality.
So something to keep in mind when hiring a private investigator is their ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
Now, while I try to educate people that there are many things that private investigators cannot do, there are some things that we can do that the average person cannot. For example, if an unlicensed person follows someone around and takes pictures (as suggested in this ad) it is called stalking, and considered a crime. If a licensed private investigator does this it is called surveillance. We won’t even get into what other crimes such as trespassing a person can run into that is not educated in this area.
I mean I have a calculator and I’m pretty good at math and CPAs are so expensive so … sorry, couldn’t resist J
Now, in fairness I did contact the alleged poster of this ad to inform them that they could not provide unlicensed services in the state of Tennessee. I received a response within minutes stating they did not post this ad and have had many responses, but since they did not post it they cannot remove it. In order to assist them I flagged the ad as prohibited and have written to craigslist about this matter.. So please do not look up this ad and contact this person. And again, as seems to be a repeated reminder of this blog you never know who you are dealing with online, people can hide behind email addresses and computer screens.
